Enjoying your favorite outdoor adventure likely requires some equipment. There are many obstacles to procuring the appropriate gear: cost, maintenance, storage, and changing needs based on activity of interest. The Whitman College Outdoor Program is home to a robust rental program for students and the community. Visit the Outdoor Program Rental Shop site for the complete list of available goods and rental cost. The options are robust–tents, coolers, helmets, bikes, rafts, dry bags, skis, and more.
While you are exploring the rental shop, check out the Outdoor Program Bike Shop offering maintenance and repairs, rentals, and products for sale. You might even find your next bike! Since 2012, campus security delivers abandoned bikes to the bike shop for repair. Those bikes are then available for purchase.
For in-town recreation opportunities, check out the open kayak sessions. Participants can try out whitewater kayaks in the warm water of Harvey Pool in the Baker Ferguson Fitness Center on campus. Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays from 8-10 pm during the semester. Enjoy open kayak and connect with fellow adventure seekers.
In addition to water sports, the climbing center is open to the public. With over 7,000 square feet of finger-gripping fun, this local climbing wall offers a challenge for any skill level.
Whitman College definitely recognizes the importance of connecting with nature. Through rentals and facilities, the Outdoor Program is helping many in the community opt outside.
